The Garden Awakens
Anise 'Woodland Red' ( Illicium floridanum ) A few weeks ago, I thought spring would never arrive, but now the change is astonishing. The nights are still cold (40s and sometimes even 30s) so planting tender annuals and vegetables is unwise although I have already succumbed, but covering and uncovering things gets old quickly. Someone made a wise comment last week and I must agree with them - "Don't plant anything tender until after May 1". Several plants are blooming like never before. One is the Anise shrub (above and below). I don't know if the recent tree pruning, which is allowing more sun into the woodland path, is affecting it or perhaps it is just age, but I've never seen so many blooms. Ha! So glad you weren't at a loss as to where to eat!
ReplyDeleteOne word: YUM!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks good and interesting and fun. I could hang out there for several days eating and looking and be happy as anyone could be.
ReplyDeleteif you have the chance to come back to the durham chapel hill area, I'll point you to lots of great places to eat! How was the ceviche, you didn't say whether you liked it?
ReplyDeleteNever a dull meal there I see. All of those food trucks remind me of carnivals here. Gosh, this post made me hungry.
ReplyDeleteOh Yes! We ate at the food trucks in one part of town when we were in Portland a couple of months ago. Best meal I had all weekend, I think.
ReplyDeleteWe had such a good time there with you Phillip.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks colorful and yummy, but I probably would have had a cheeseburger!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I think I read on FB that next years fling is in Portland. You have a head start since you toured many places there already.
ReplyDeleteCarol, it is. I didn't know that until a few weeks before I went out there. I hope to be able to attend. Are you going?
ReplyDeleteEating out, especially with friends who know the good places, is one of the best parts of a vacation. The only trouble is that I usually end up a few pounds heavier than when I left home.
