Plants People Ask About

Galega x hartlandii 'Lady Wilson'  On Monday, our garden was included in the HPSO Study Weekend. This is a four-day event that includes speakers, plant/art sales and garden tours. The event rotates every two years between the cities of Portland, Seattle, Victoria B.C. and Vancouver B.C.  It will be 2033 before Portland hosts again. I toured the Portland gardens on Friday and Saturday and will share some photos in my next post. The weather was perfect on those days. Not so much on Monday, the day for the Vancouver, Washington gardens tour, and by late afternoon, the temperature had reached 94. However, it wasn't too bad in the first part of the day, and that's when we received the most visitors. We didn't have an exact count, but making an estimate based on our guestbook, I would say around 200 people. It was a hectic but fun day! We had a lot of visitors from Seattle and areas north of us as attendees were making their way home. Every time we open our garden, there ...

Postcards from Santa Rosa Beach

We are back from our annual beach vacation. This year we were at Santa Rosa Beach again (between Destin and Panama City Beach, Florida). The weather was beautiful, sunny days in the 70s and mild mornings and evenings. Only one day of rain - the last day we were there - but I enjoyed it because we were in a house with a tin roof and I was curled up with a good book. Our house also had walls of windows overlooking the beach. It was very cozy.

The photo above was just one of many beautiful sunsets we enjoyed. Here are some more photos taken from our deck -

  5. Phillip,
Florida is a really big state, but do you ever get down there in Jan thru Mar? We spend those months in central Florida and would love to visit if you are anywhere nearby - like I said, I know it is a huge state, but...
    Best to you,
    Shenandoah

  14. Gorgeous shots, and just my kind of vacation. They look so much like our recent trip to Sanibel Island, but that shouldn't be surprising!
