June 2009 Bloom Day

This is a brief one as we had such a rainy weekend that I barely had time to get out and take photos.

I am on a lily kick and planted several last fall. This one is "Scheherazade"

This is "Caravan"

I've never seen so many blooms on the Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus). This is "Blue Bird"

Verbena bonariensis

Bloom Day is the brainchild of Carol at May Dreams Gardens. To see more blooms, visit her blog.

Good morning,

Don't those lilies make a beautiful image.
Most of your flowers are not even in bud over here. Alabama is about three weeks ahead of us here in the UK I reckon.

Wow those are some nice plants! I really love the Scheherazade lily, and please if you do find out what that day lily is let me know.

Hi Philip~~ The lilies are to die for. Definitely a beautiful obsession. Many of your bloomers are late summer stars in my garden. Fun to see them early.

Our lilies just started popping, too. So nice.
Hi Philip

Well, as ever I'm knocked out with your superb photography.

The Monarda looks really nice. I like the structure behind it.

Nice photos as usual. I have been tempted to take a V. bonariensis out of the compost pile at work where it is taking over. Then I think if it is taking over the compost pile, do I really want it in my garden?

I've now read about Bee Balm "Jacob Kline" several times lately. Yours is very nice. The Rose of Sharon is being more than generous with blooms. Lovely.

Philip, It's easy to get into lilies they are beautiful, stately and often fragrant! Mine bloom in less then perfect garden spots...another reason to adore them. Your vitex tree is delightful...I wish it had liked it here! Have a good day. gail
I admit I'm not a huge fan of daylilies (other then the orange tiger variety) but yours are so interesting-looking! Love the verbana--I haven't had great luck with it reseeding itself in my yard, which is odd, because that's what it does, but I love it.

Hi Phillip, what a great theme to have growing in the garden, lilies! I have been adding more and more too. Yours are wonderful, I am adding them both to the want list! Happy Bloom Day!
Frances
You may be on a Lily kick, but I'm kicking myself now for not planting Lilies I was thinking about last fall. Yours are stunning, and 'Sheherazade' was one I wanted to get.
Your new red border is off to a great start. Great match of the Monarda with the tuteur.

your Scheherzade(sp?) lily is spectacular! As is all of your garden.

Your hydrangea vignette is stunning! Don't you just love the redheaded Jacob? It's new this year in my garden and I'm loving it, too. Best red monarda that I've seen.

I had a volunteer yellow lily (must have been planted by a bird) in my outer gardens where the deer and bunnies roam. It escaped being eaten as the bird planted it closely with some other plants. I wish I could grow more. I have only one lily that I planted, a Starfighter, tucked inside the cottage garden fence.

Those lilies are lovely - I have lily envy!
we had rain all weekend...mainly at 4:00pm every afternoon. Wet, wet, wet, but no complaints from me. Love your pics. We must be about on the same schedule here in Charleston, SC......

Phillip, this is my first time to your blog and I'm oh so happy I came by. My partner and I are cultivating a much smaller property in WNY and we too, have been on somewhat of a lily kick. We haven't had any open up yet - but hopefully the summer weather will get here soon, and the whole garden will be a riot of color! I love your collection of lilies, and your bee balm is gorgeous. Again - mine still closed. Beautiful blog - so inspirational. You and your partner are doing a fantastic job!

Thanks for the comments and a big welcome to new visitors - Jo, Ryan, ChrisC and JonC, Compost, Kim, Niartist - please come again!
Love the lilies. Those are lovely colors. I added a couple more this year. Hope they do well.

Everything looks beautiful as usual. I love 'Jacob Kine' with the red tuteur. It's amazing how fast that one grows, mine's close to blooming. Beautiful hydrangeas too!
These big ole tall lilies of yours are gorgeous. I used to have a Stargazer that was so prolific and smelled so good. It finally bloomed out. Sorry I don't know what the name of my dark red lily is. I have had it for years. It reproduces nice too.
I have never seen the little tree you have here, very pretty.

It's fun to see these lilies and red flowers on your GBBD post, Phillip - add a real summertime pop to the mix, especially with all the small blues and purples from the vitex and verbena. Those Orienpet hybrids are so tempting!

Good to see all those blooms in your garden. We are still living with spring bloom here but your shots are a great prelude to what is coming soon.

Nice blooms! Those hydrangeas look great. I like the story behind Sheherazade. Of course my favorite classical piece is based on that story by Rimsky-Korsakov.

I was visiting your fair state this week end and it rained all over. Your lilies are nice. I usually do not bring flowers in but rain is an exception. I usually rescue some.

I've fallen in love with Scheherazade. And the bee balm looks great against the red support.

I love the Monarda with the red structure. What a great combo!

As usual, your garden looks wonderful. I planted Jacob Kline last summer and while the blooms are great, it is flopping over, not straight like yours. You are lucky you have had rain, it has been weeks since we have had any, and it is beginning to show.

Always Growing
Truly gorgeous lilies. I wonder how hard they'd be to grow here?

They all look so healthy and attractive together. Your gardens are the envy of everyone.

We got an inch of rain in about 10 minutes this morning. My son remarked that it hurt to stand in it cause it was pounding down from above so badly. So I understand how wet this Spring has been but aren't you so glad? I am.
Hi Phillip, I don't have much luck with lilies. Your photos make me wish I did. I also love Vitex, but don't know where to put one. Happy Bloom Day.~~Dee
