Swapping Huckleberries

Himalayan Honeysuckle ( Vaccinium glauco album)  Himalayan Honeysuckle ( Vaccinium glauco album) has been an attractive feature along our north-facing foundation since I planted it in 2016. You will have to take my word for it since I cannot locate a photo although I know one exists somewhere in the realm of the Internet or floating on a cloud somewhere.  I did locate a photo of how it looked when it was first planted - It took a few years to fill out but it did so nicely to an attractive mound about 2 feet high by 3 feet wide.  Last year, it started to look bad.  I cut it back but it had not improved and this is how it looked a few weeks ago - I decided to rip it out and plant another huckleberry - this time Vaccinium ovatum , more commonly known as the "Evergreen Huckleberry".  This is a plant that I've wanted for ages and kept putting off getting one because I could not find a good place for it. This is the David Austin rose "Pat Austin" - beautiful salmon color but the blooms always nod and you have to knell down to see them.

"Marchesa Boccella" - my favorite rose name.

"Marjorie Fair" - a "Top 10" rose for sure. Always excellent!

"Marjorie Fair" is also known as "Red Ballerina". It is related to "Ballerina" but I find that "Marjorie Fair"  isn't as prone to blackspot.

Another David Austin rose that performs really well in our garden is "The Pilgrim". This one needs some room to grow and it can be used as a climber.

    Oh wow - I just planted a Marjorie Fair. Yours is stunning - I hope it likes my garden as well! It looks huge! I may not have allocated enough space for it. But maybe it won't get quite so large here since I'm in the north. All your roses are lovely.

    We have - or had? I have not been back to visit in over a year now - 'Marchesa Boccella" growing in our German garden, the one I puttered around in as a child, which is now rented out...

    I've never seen a rose quite like that Marjorie Fair, wow! It doesn't even look like a rose to me. Just gorgeous.

    Spurge, this is a rose that you can keep trimmed. It is quite bushy and dense.

    For all my roses, I don't seem to have these rounded roses...are the called cabbage shaped? I think the Don Juan has the shape but is that the appropriate term?

    Very nice. Phillip, I just use my camera to make the videos and then down to my lap top and use Window Movie Maker to make the videos. It's easy to use and I'm not that bright about such things. Then up load to You Tube. You should do some of your garden. I'd love to see them. Have a great weekend! Carol. Oh! Are ya'll going out to San Fran for the Blogger trip?

    No, I haven't ever been able to go but maybe one day. I am going out the first week in June to Davis(Sacramento area) for my nephew's graduation. My sister that lives out there just finished her Master Gardener's, so she has found us some gardens to visit. Maybe I can go to one some day.
