One Earth Botanical

It is always exciting to discover a new nursery, especially when so many are closing these days. A friend recently introduced me to One Earth Botanical.  They are located at 24001 NE 28th Street in Camas, Washington and are open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10-3. This is a family-owned nursery specializing in perennials, shrubs and trees. I was impressed by their inventory and saw some plants that I didn't know existed, such as the red-blooming Cestrum called "Ruby Clusters" pictured at the top. Their prices are also awesome (most of the perennials I saw were $7 with larger sized pots around $12 - $15.)  Stephanie gave us a tour of their 8-acre property which includes large display gardens, areas for weddings and other events and an in-the-works yurt which will be opened as a B&B. Paul, Cindy and I drove to the coast today. It was a rainy start but cleared up soon and turned out to be a sunny but cold and windy day. Our first stop was Astoria where we stopped at the Maritime Museum then had lunch at Baked Alaska. We regretted that we did not have time to do and see everything. They loved Astoria and hope to return on a future trip and spend a night and an entire day here.

The maritime museum was fascinating and I feel like I learned quite a bit about the shipping trade as well as the geographical features of the Columbia River. I especially enjoyed reading about the trade routes and the items that we ship (and receive) to and from other countries. There was so much to see and read about here that we simply did not have time to view it all. Oh, and the gift shop was pretty fabulous too!

We had lunch here at the Baked Alaska restaurant.

I had fish and chips and actual Baked Alaska for dessert!

We then drove on to Cannon Beach (I will post those in a separate post).

  1. That is one big anchor. The scenery there is magnificent. A delicious dessert is a great way to top off a nice tour.
