Hidcote - pt. 1
I'm just now getting around to organizing the photos from my trip to England back in May. As I've said a million times, this was the trip of a lifetime, and I had an incredible time. This was a 3-week trip organized by the HPSO (Hardy Plant Society of Oregon) during which we visited 35 different locations. Most all of these were gardens but there were also a few castles and villages thrown in, as well as the icing on the trip - the Chelsea Flower Show. This tour focused on the southeast region of England, notably the Cotswolds and Cornwall. I've watched so many programs and read so many books about England and the gardens there that I was afraid it would tarnish the image I had built up in my head. I'm pleased to say that it not disappoint. The trek from London to Bath by train was not the best first impression. Phillip, your winter garden looks great. Enticing structure in every view, and your Southern garden is nice and green.

ReplyDeleteA rare event indeed, Phillip. I was ten before I saw a real snowfall in Alabama. I am amused by the story of a little girl in Florida upon seeing her first snowfall. " Look, Mommy, the rain has popped ! "
ReplyDeleteThis morning's paper shows rainfall in the deep South. Have you had any significant coverage ?
My compliments on your beautiful garden. Mine is currently under about a foot and a half of snow. It will stay that way most likely till sometime in March or April. I was interested to see that you are taking a Master Gardner's course. I start mine tomorrow for Northern gardening.
ReplyDeleteYou have some great bones to your garden that makes it look inviting even in winter. Wish I could send you some more snow we have had our share up here. Just got 4 inches a couple of days ago and a dusting on top of that today. Tomorrow moring in will get to 2 below zero. Burrrrrr!!

ReplyDeleteWasn't the snow just wonderful? In the South is brings out the kid in every adult. Ours came down hard for a little while, but was gone in just a few hours.

ReplyDeleteNice shots of your snowfall. We got a dusting over here in Vicksburg, MS, but it melted soon as it hit the ground. It was fun to see and realize that the rare event brings out the hidden kid within us all. Best regards,

You like me, had a rare and wonderful sight down here in the South. I ended up having to do a short video of it to catch the flakes. You are right it is difficult to catch it on the camera.
