Autumn Vibes

Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate' (Snakeroot) with Hydrangea 'Snow Queen' I love autumn - the crisp, cooler temperatures, the rain, and most of all, the fall colors. The year looks to be a nice one. I got back from a trip to Alabama last week and found that the colors were in full swing (unlike Alabama, where the temperatures were lovely with the exception of some mugginess but alas, no color at all).  Japanese Maples are the first thing I think of when autumn comes to mind. This one is 'Bihou' and one of the first to change color.  Acer palmatum 'Bihou' Other trees are beginning to change as well, including the Redbud 'Flame Thrower'.  'Flame Thrower' Redbud ( Cercis canadensis ) The star of the show now, however, is the Stewartia. The perfect spot

This is a neighbor's cat but he may as well be ours since he spends 90% of his time in our garden. We call him Chester. He has the sweetest personality and has the oddest choice for sleeping areas. When he was smaller, he would curl up in a pot of portulaca on top of the garden wall but I guess he outgrew that. Now he prefers the birdbath.

Uh, would you get out of here with that camera so I can get my beauty sleep?

    What adorable pictures. I just love having cats in the garden. We have our orange cat and the neighbor's black cat sleeping in our back garden all the time. Their calm, peaceful nature lends a zen-like atmosphere to that area.

    He sure does dress up an empty birdbath quite nicely. I love cat pics. I have three of my own.
